Well now....


I'm off with a random beer today. I was going to brew an Imperial Stout tomorrow, but some of the bits from H&G haven't arrived, so I thought "what the hell, let's use up some open ingredients...."

So today's mystery beer is "Hip Hop Hound" kind of American Pale Aley in style, but with lots of lager malt plus some munich, crystal and torrefied wheat that needed to get used.

Hop schedule is a belt of 9.3% Amarillo first, then flavour and aroma hops using a mixture of First Gold and Bobek to use up some open packs from the freezer.

Yeast is US-05.

Mash has been in at 66 for half an hour. It'll be a 90 minute mash and a 90 minute boil.

Fingers crossed.

No brew porn yet as the missus has the camera.

24 g First Gold (8.3%) - added during boil, boiled 15 min
18 g Styrian Goldings (Bobek) (3.0%) - added during boil, boiled 15 min
24 g First Gold (8.3%) - added during boil, boiled 1 min
18 g Styrian Goldings (Bobek) (3.0%) - added during boil, boiled 1 min
1 ea Fermentis US-05 Safale US-05
0.0 tsp Whirlfloc Tablets (Irish moss) - added during boil, boiled 0.0 min

My guess is that is going to be killer. Amarillo and First Gold is a good combo.

Mrs. DM came back....and I got a few pics. She'd borrowed my Nikon to take pics of kids and dogs - not a thought for the important stuff!

OG 1052 @ 20C. Hit my target more or less smack on.

Now it's pitched with US-05 and wrapped up for the night!

that's a bit strange - they appear to be there intermittently. Maybe Apple are having problems with their switch from .Mac to MobileMe......

Curiouser and curioser....

I have two JBK browser windows up right now - this one that I'm writing in where the pics don't show up, and another one just looking at the thread....where they show up fine.

[censored] it. I'm going to go to bed and see if I can fix it in the morning...or if it's fixed itself.

I think I fixed the pics.....let me know if they still don't appear (should be in the original post now....)

As an update, this puppy is going like a train. This morning's quality control sample is at 1026 from 1052 (approx 36 hours) and tastes great.

No Probs! Pictures seem to be working fine with me!
