Going to have a bash at the following tomorrow, based on des's recipe:

90min mash at 65C and 90min boil...

387.00 gm AA - Caramel/Crystal Malt - 60L (118.2 EBC) Grain 8.45 %
194.00 gm AA - Wheat Malt, Ger (3.9 EBC) Grain 4.23 %
80.00 gm Fuggles [4.00 %] (90 min) Hops 35.6 IBU
14.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [4.60 %] (15 min) Hops 3.3 IBU
15.00 gm Goldings, East Kent [4.60 %] (0 min) Hops (80 min steep)

I am hoping to achieve something a bit more "in your face" than my previous attempts which have probably been too subtle. Hopefully all the hops here will make for a good brew!

If by 'in-your-face' you also mean hoppier, perhaps you could afford to add more Goldings at flameout even?

Looks tasty though - I'd order a pint :)

I'd add another kilo of Maris if it were me (and it's a 23l brew length).....more towards a nice strong in yer face IPA.

If you went 5Kg MO, 0.5Kg Crystal, 0.25Kg wheat Malt, then BeerAlchemy says it checks all the boxes for an English IPA.

If you want it even hoppier, upping the Fuggles to 100G at the start of the boil should give you around 50IBU. It certainly shouldn't taste middle of the road.....but might take a few weeks to condition properly.

(Note to self: not everybody likes IPAs.....)

Thanks for the advice guys,

I wanted to do an exact clone of the recipe but unfortunately I only had exactly 4Kg of MO left so I had to scale it down accordingly. I also only had 80g of Fuggles exactly left :)

I like the idea of adding more goldings at flameout, again I just got the 7g by scaling the recipe to what I have. would upping it to 15g be good?!

Anyway, I have some pics of my progress so far... (all my brewday pics look the same, but I know everyone loves brewporn so ah well!)

Yeah, why not. I would. But then adding aroma hops is one of my favourite bits. Certainly wouldn't hurt, and 7g isn't very much.

Nearing the end of the boil now. Batch sparge took me nearly 2 hours due to 2 damn stuck mashes - they plague me! Also had a boil over as always when I brew 23L - the things we endure eh :)

Where are you getting your crushed grain from, its likely to be the cause of the problem.

I got all my MO from Hop & Grape. I am moving to Scotland next week so when I get settled in I will buy my next lot from barleybottom and see if it improves things.

All done and tidied up now,was longer than my last 2 brewdays due to my stuck sparges but all in all it went well. The run off from the boiler to the FV was crystal clear (see pic below) which is a first for me so I am excited. It tasted bloody lovely too! Managed to hit my target of 1.041 spot on. I seemed to have levelled out at 70% efficiency which will do nicely.

Anyway, the rest of the pics:

See that, out of the window, the spent mash tun constructed painstakingly out of a picnic cooler next to the washing line, that says something about life that does. I'm not sure what, mind you.

This is sure to be a goody - nice sample.

Maybe if I blow it up, print it, and splatter it with a few dollops of paint here and there, I could make a fortune from it :)

Really appreciated your help fivetide, don't know where I would be without all you guys on here. I am planning to bottle some of this one, so I could send you one for an opinion in due course.
