Will brew my second AG tomorrow morning(first one is maturing nicely in the keg). It’s a recipe I made up using beersmith, and some hedgerow hops I picked with the wife.
3650g of MO
400g of crystal
120g torified wheat.
50g hedgerow hops (90min)
20g Northdown (90min)
20g Challenger (15min)
200g invert sugar
S04
Have put 11 lts of water in the boiler ands set the timer for 7:00am should get to 70°C by the time I get out to the garage. Then the fun starts. Will post photos if I can find out how!
Appreciate any comments on the recipe!
2nd AG, with hedgerow hops
Re: 2nd AG, with hedgerow hops
Have a good day; the pick it yourself bit sounds like great fun particularly because you don't really know how it will work out. Do you feel brave enough to use some of the hedgerow hops for either a flavour or aroma addition?
Re: 2nd AG, with hedgerow hops
Not that confident. After drying we only got 50g (looked like a lot more). Did steep a few in a cup of hot water to check bitterness and it seemed ok. Are well, lets have a go and see

Started mash at 7:45. within the 90mins i will get the sparge water ready and assemble the remaining ingredients. Will take some pics!
Re: 2nd AG, with hedgerow hops
Good luck RD.
Not to cause trouble but I'd read the usage of hedgerow hows might be most appropriate as Flavour/Aroma as you can't be certain of their effective bitterness. Also that should put the ...well Flavour and Aroma of your lucky find in the limelight for you to enjoy.
I'm bucking this advice with my own next brew though, it's with homegrown First Gold and will be a long maturing English IPA.
Enjoy your day, and we love piccies!

Took the advice! Added half at last 5 mins. Did check bitterness and it seemed OK, although i have never done this before so i have nothing to compare with
Theres a masher there somewhere!

Simple fly spager

First run-off (around 1065)

Bit of a mess (but out of the way of the wife!)

Final run-off (around 1010

Runing off @ 24°C

Final OG in the FV.

A bit blured but you can see the colour. Reading is around 1050, a bit higher than i was aiming for
