I'll be brewing this today (thanks Garth for the recipe). I adjusted it to fit my brew size (23.5 l) as opposed to Garths 55 - lucky sod

I'm short (only by 10grams) on the flaked barley so I doubt that will affect things much but i've gained a bit getting cascade pellets instead of leaf. I only need around 35g compared to Garths 100g  Mine have slightly more AA in them at 7.30AA.

So, onto cleaning my stuff then transfer my Throttle beer I did last week to a keg (and a few bottles) then I'm all set to start this one.

I have a feeling my efficiancy is higher than 70% so the way I see it is I'll be making more than the 5 gallons, I usually make around 6 gallons at the same ABV.

Mash on @ 14.12 and it smells very nice :)

I've just put the recipe through beersmith and it's giving me different IBU's for the same amount/AA of cascade so i'm not sure what's going on with that. Will have a look and see whats occuring.

I'm surprised to say that I was done by around 6pm  That has to be a first for me - making 5 gallons of beer in around 4 hours. That's not including cleaning equipment before or after (just finished the after bit).

Anyway, brew made at 23.5 litres bang on but starting gravity slightly down at 1041. I took more notes than usual and noticed I had 26.5 litres of pre-boil wort so very low evaporation rates.

Anyway, it's all done now and I can't wait to try it as the pre fermented wort is lovely 8)

BTW, the Throttle beer I made is near crystal clear already and tastes very nice too, considering it's only been done for 7 days.

In fact, I think I'll sample a half now

The Four Shades is the name of a stout recipe which Garth passed onto me (and is in the brewday section) I tried it when I popped over the other day for some grain and it was excellent.

Keeping it bike related, the Four Shades (of my kecks) was down to me thinking I was "all that", opening the throttle on my just tuned race bike (previosly road going Kawasaki zx7r) and finding out just how quickly 125bhp could be laid onto hot tarmac, or not, as I sped across the road sliding all over the place missing other road users (I was testing on a bit of private road m'lud) before realising I needed to shut the throttle or have it shut for me by the rapidly approaching bus.

I stopped on the wrong side of the road, facing the wrong way, parked up, lit a fag and thought deeply about what had just happened.

To say that I was etchasketching my knickers would be close to the mark
