After 5 and a bit weeks of waiting I decided its time to open her up. Doing some pre flight checks to make sure its drinkable for the BBQ and big unveiling this weekend. Gravity's still not in the green but it tastes rather good so if my stomachs ok tomorrow, its all good.

For my first attempt im very happy with the outcome.

It tastes like McEwans but alot easier going, also got a fruity edge to it. Brewed from a woodfordes kit with brand name yeast (not the stuff supplied with the kit). Its also fizzy, normal?

Two questions before I post pics, the keg I have. Do I have to take the rubber bit off on top of the keg for easier pouring? Is it normal for my twice cleaned/sterilized ferm bucket to still smell of wort?

I'll post more pics on the day of the BBQ.

Preid, you seem to have a problem with floating birds and cloudiness your third pic, I'd get that sorted before the BBQ.... :D

Good pictures and good result matey, nice one.

Unless you have a gas injection system you'll have to slacken the lid to serve as you eventually create a vaccum as you take the beer off. This will admit air into the brew unfortunately so you'll need to su p if off within a week.

Wort can be a stinky thing and the smell hang around in your fv for ages. Try filling it with a strong soda crystals/hot water solution and leaving it for a hour. Rinse it well and it should shift a lot of the smell.

Yeah nice glasses and i love the dog pic as well, curious fellas,i have also found my fv smelling of hops even after a few washes, the plastic holds it for a bit,i've not had a prob with infection so don't worry too much if you have given it a good scrub and sanitised.

Cheers for the replies, heres the first pint pic. I unscrewed the top like you said while I was mid pour. It came shooting out! I relise it wont stay fizzy with this method so she's sealed until the bbq. Im just doing a little further taste testing, vital work.

Its got the colour of rust so i'll name this batch 'Rusty Sun' beer.

Wondering what to brew next, im thinking about getting a few more ferm buckets
