Beast!

Got inventive today - mid brew, aiming for a 'Chiswick' but decided I needed to use Northern Brewer in place of the Challenger that's missing from my hop collection currently. Then as I got confused as to how hoppy I wanted the aroma to be and decided 'what the hell?' in went an extra 12g of fuggles for a steep at the end. So cos I decided to check a few fuggles in to steep aswell as use NB in place of Challenger, I suspect it won't be anything like Chiswick? I am hoping with Target, Northdown, Northern Brewer and Fuggles .... it will be a bit of a hoppy Beast (for a session beer) hence the name BEAST - totally cocked up the mash PH though which was somewhere between 4.9 and 5.1.

Anyone care to hazard a guess how this one's going to come out? Here Goes .....

B E A S T OG 1.038
-----------------------
Pale Malt 3500
crystal 300
flaked maize 300

target 12.2aa 15g (90)
n brewer 9.5aa 13g (90)
northdown 9.3aa 10g (15)
fuggles 4.96aa 12g steep
&
Muntons Gold Yeast
---------------------------

oooh and I Caramelised the first 3/4 of a pint of runnings from the mashtun. Last time I did this I was pleased I did, and i like the very subtle toffee note it seems to impart!

Not bad at all, infact not at all different from how I remember it (which is not the same thing as having a bottle to compare from a previous batch unfortunately!) One thing with session beers is that they tend to clear down quick. I Kegged it into a HB Placcy Keg saturday, no finings and it's clear. It will improve if left to mature but after 10 days (nearly) it's ready and it used to take me nearly a month to get a brew in what I'd call a drinkable condition.
