it's now cooled and run off to FV. 23 litres @ 1040.
yeast pitched and it can live in the front room utill i can find an old fridge and get a temp controlled fermentation space built.
many thanks to brewzone for mash tun and sparge ring.
73% efficient. i'll give it 5 days in primary FV and then rack it in to a secondary, check gravity and if it's somewhere near 1010 i'll leave it some where cool before bottling around day 10 (i haven't got any spare kegs and can't afford cornies untill i've sold a kayak and some kayaking kit)

Looking good there,

just out of interest how far is the wort from the top of your boiler before you start the boil as it looks very full, I presume you don't get any boil overs? - how many litres are in it and what size is it? only asking, as i'm just sorting out a boiler and trying to decide what size to go for.

it's a 5 gallon electrim boiler and you have to fill it to get anywhere near 23 litres final volume. boil overs have been a problem in the past but i'm super vigilant now and don't leave it alone for a moment. probably a couple of cm gap but i collect some wort in a bucket and add that halfway through the boil when some of the wort has evaporated.
i'm suprised nobody's noticed the pants on the radiator in the background

Made this in sept. Just started drinking it out of bottles not bad . Got 1040 and after 10 days in the fv went to 1005 used nottingham yeast .Didn't use the amount of hops you did 37 g fuggles 19g goldngs 20g boiler off. I did this as I have found DL recipes are a bit over hopped and so kept it to 33ibu using beersmith.Looks a good beer.

i'm looking for a brewing hat.
a hat i wear while brewing.
but i like the idea of giving a horn a blast while adding hops.
brewing rituals? do you reckom it'll make the beer taste better?

Note the reading on the digi thermometer; 66.6

Thats the sort of thing that'd rattle me on a brew day.

For the DL recipe, what is the color of the crystal malt? Is there a suggested like 40, or 80? Loved this beer when I was in England awhile back.
Thanks

I used 120ebc which roughly is 60l when you see in uk books crystal malt that is what they normaly mean to use.

Thanks
In my local hbs they have UK crystal that states 55L-this what I use and if the color is too light I add some black patent
Cheers
