Sooo I managed to do this earlier in the week, a couple of fairly minor alterations (marked in bold) to the original recipe, pinched from Garths thread

23 Litre Batch

3230 gms Marris Otter
500 gms Flaked Barley
250 gms Amber Malt
250 gms Chocolate Malt
200 gms Roasted Barley
200 gms Caramalt

40 gms Boadicea (7.6% AAU's) 60 min boil

1 Packet of dried Nottingham brewers yeast

So first of all here's the ingredients

Dough in

First runnings, lovely and black :)

Hot break and hops added

At this point I forgot to take any more pics, but the good news is I hit the estimated OG of 1045 aswell as hitting the target brew length. I still haven't bothered figuring out efficiency, mainly because when I do my runnings and pour back in to the mash tun I don't measure the gravity. But seeing as I hit the targets I can't be doing too badly :)

I had a couple of botles of four shades myself recently, courtesy of Garth. I am mainly a bitter drinker, but this is a cracking brew & the bottles I got from Garth were top notch.

Looks like you are in for a treat there Paul, enjoy it! 8)

Took a gravity reading today as it's been nearly a week and the bubbling has pretty muched stopped only once every few minutes now. So I was expecting it to be about 1010-1012. Instead it's in the region of 1014-1015

Any ideas?

I would settle for that FG Paul even if it is a little higher than you hoped for its not too high and may well drop a little more over the next few days.I have got a stout fermenting at the moment with a SG of 1.050 and wil be well happy with an FG in the region you have got there. What yeast did you use ?

Mmmmm....that looks GOOD!

(If I wasn't drinking an Imperial IPA right now, I'd be jealous)

The only thing you can do to make me even more jealous would be to have the fire lit.

Very nice picture and nice looking beer.

I had Garth's last bottle of FSoS a week ago and it was very-moreish. Very complex and a lovely stout

That picture actually kinda made me wish it was winter again! Sat inside in the warmth while its snowing and cold outside with a few nice pints of stout!

Cannot quite see the correlation between winter and stout, but hey I drink stout all year round....LOL
