Hillbilly Porter Brewday

Post by Horden Hillbilly » Mon Dec 15, 2008 3:30 pm

Well, here goes, my first brew for 6 months! The recipe can be found here.

All went well, here are your pics.

Image

Grains used on this brew.

Image

Bittering hops in the jug, aroma hops in ths small container. I am using Safale S-04 yeast on this brew.

Image

All mixed in the mash tun, hit temp of 67c which is what I wanted.

Image

3 tier set up.

Image

Collecting the 1st runnings.

Image

Nice vigorous boil.

Image

Cooling the wort.

Image

Nice clear wort. The og was 1045. I took a reading of 1043 at 19c, my hydrometer reads 0.998 in water at 20c, hence the correction. I aimed for 1044 & collected just under 24 litres.

Image

Spent hops & plenty of gunk!

Image

Adding the yeast & areating the wort.

Job done.

I can now confirm that this beer is an absolute cracker. A real good example of a quality porter.

Dave gave me three bottles which lasted about a week, then went. Excellent stuff, and nice to see it on draught as well, canny head!
