TTL Last Night

Hiya, some pics for ya!

Went alright, first time with a bit of water treatment (I used Asda Smart price water - 19Bottles! should have seen the look on peoples faces!)

Anyway, tested water and mash with PH strips, its interesting to see that it looks about spot on. Added 1/2 teaspoon of Calcium flakes and gypsum to mash .
Added 1 teaspoon ish to boil of gypsum.

Only one problem, as i started late, I was up till 3am trying to get the thing to cool down,as i dont have a wort chiller (in the bath surrounded by ice packs.)

Anyway couldnt wait any longer and pitched 3am at about 26 Deg. Not much happening 9am this morning, stuff on top but nothing much, no bubbles.

Checked just now and a few bubbles starting to appear. Would I have killed yeast off as temp would have been dropping to stabilise at now 20ish degrees.

If its not going mad by end of play tonight would you add 1/2 a packet of SO4 again?

Normally the lid is blowing off, not at moment it isnt!

Any ideas /help?

Thanks

I am no expert, but have always been lead to believe that as long as you are below 30c when you pitch the yeast you should be ok. Not sure where I got this figure from but it has not let me down yet. Did you take a hydrometer reading? If after 24 hours it hasn’t dropped I would put in your spare SO-4, but patience is often the key.

The yeast should be fine, many dry yeasts reccomend up to 35 deg C rehydrating temperature. I rehydrate my dry yeasts at 30 degrees and they're fine. :)
