22/01/2009 - Harviestoun Original 80/-

Post by Jymbo » Thu Jan 22, 2009 4:27 pm

Just finished this a few minutes ago. Used up most of my hop ends. Next visit to the HBS will be an expensive one

Brewlength: 19L
Target OG: 1041
Target FG: 1008

Mash: 90 mins at 66C

Maris Otter 3050g
Crystal Malt 350g
Sugar 110g
Wheat Malt 120g

Hops: 37 IBUs

90 mins, Fuggles (3.7%): 27g
90 mins, Challenger (7.1%): 17g
15 mins, EKG (4.6%): 20g

Yeast: Nottingham.

All went pretty well except that I forgot to add the sugar to the boil, but it shouldn't make any difference as I got slightly better efficiency than I planned for in any case. Target was 19L @ 1041, ended up with 20L @ 1040.

that should come out over 4%ABV which is spot on, much better if you brew without sticking sugar in IMO, call me old fashioned :D

This one turned out superb. Finished up at 1008, so about 4.2% ABV. Funny how the simplest brews often turn out the best.

I don't think Harviestoun themselves have brewed this for years, so you're drinking a bit of history :)
