First AG!

Here's some pics from my first All grain brew which I did a few weeks ago. I stole the recipe from this forum :D .

Only problems I had was the room steaming up on the boil, So next time I'm going to boil closer to the window and use a strategically placed fan to hopefully blow most of the steam out. Fingers crossed. Other than that i had a right ballache with the H&G hop filter (who doesnt?!) so that will be getting modified tomorrow and another brew will be on the go!

God, you will have the other students clawing at your door when they find out you have 40 pints of porter in your room :)

They're all fosters drinkers, they dont like the "taste" that real ale has.

Borodave!!!! I had exactly the same trouble two weeks ago! If you're interested take a look at my thread for pics of my modification -
viewtopic.php?f=6&t=19921
I used this modified strainer on Sunday and it worked a treat this time! I also e-mailed H&G 2 weeks ago to "advise" them of the problem though I am sure they must know already. I suggested that they think about modifying their design but (disappointingly) got no reply. :(

You'll be fine. Just take your time. Use a 3mm drill bit but the best piece of advice I got was to make little dents to mark the spot for every drill hole in the pipe using a hammer and nail. These dents acts as a guide for your drill bit otherwise it will slide all over the place. Good luck!

Yeh, should be fine, just drill plenty holes. Make sure you get rid of all the little copper shavings from inside the pipe. You cna either stick a big drill bit down the pipe to knock thm off or something like a screwdriver will do the job. Don't suppose it really matters since any bits that work loose would drop to the bottom of the FV but I'm a bit neurotic!

I've just had exactly the same problem on my third AG using approx 100g of hops. My two previous brews were fine but they only half the quantity of hops.

Being lazy and also not having the correct tools I thought the next time I would only add up to 50g to form a filter bed and the rest in a hop bag.

Superb :D

I'm sure they'll start drinking something other than fosters once you brew something and it clicks.
