GW Old Hooky

A friend of mine managed to get hold of some Hook Norton slurry at the start of the week so I thought as it's one of my favourites I'd give it a go. He also brought his GW version round and I was so pleased with it I did a 200L brew this morning. I won't post the recipe even in the increased amounts of grist I used as I think people should fork out for the book.
I didn't have enough black malt to finish the recipe so I fixed the colour with gravy browning whilst looking at a pint of the stuff, and a baker friend of mine brought round some invert sugar to use. Everything went well apart from some of my sheep getting out through a whole in the hedge

. After that drama I couldn't be arsed to take any photos and it was done in blue hdpe anyway. The March pump and Indesit pump worked incredibly well and I can't wait to taste the bugger, finished bang on 1042

Thanks mix, I've got 20 cornies and 4 firkins so I think I might be ok on the storage front

I've got a couple of firkins but never had the courage to use them.
I don't drink it fast enough. What shelf-life do you get?

You shouldn't be worrying about the volume so much as the suspiciously missing sheep.
Protein beer anyone?

Mix, I get about a week if I'm lucky on the firkins with no Co2 although they don't last that long in my beer circle
Boingy, only the Ram and two ewes went on the rampage. The Ram was a problem as he's 24 stone! If I didn't need him I'd consider adding him to the boil
Borodave, no pics but it's a very simple system. Four 350L blue PP5 food containers that were shipped by my sister from the US. I fitted the boiler with 3 immersion elements and 2 elements (HLT and Mashtun), 156L Igloo Marine coolbox with modified lid to accept a copper pipe for sparging and a March pump for wort to boiler, an Indesit pump for the hlt, and a totton for the wort to FV, mashtun fitted with a ss false bottom made by my fair hand and the usual fixings. It's all manually calibrated and therefore not very interesting. I've given up on the gas system as I couldn't get ss big enough and cheap enough and it only does 100L (size of pot so more like 96)
