first brew

Hey Guys

Ok, my first brew was a success. I bought a Mr. Malt kit and made the brew with my girlfriend's Dad. Here are the details:

Recipe Volume: 23L
Yeast: safbrew WB-06
Malts: Pils 2kg Weizen 3kg
OG 1.043
Hops: Hersbrucker 60g
FG: not calculated (like the loser I am, I forgot the hydrometer at home on bottling day)

The beer has a nice taste. It did, however, turn out quite bubbly. When I flip the cap of it makes a loud popping noise (like sparkling wine). I think we added too much sugar on bottling day. The beer is a little cloudy as well. I think this might be partly due to the fact that cooling was not done quickly (cold water- bathtub).

Overall though, i must say I'm quite pleased. Thanks for all the help with my beginner questions. I can guarantee there's more to come.

Cheers

That is a bit cloudy, how long was it left to condition?

Well done though, a good job keeping the outlaws onside too, beer'll do that =D>

We left it to condition for 2 weeks.

too long? too short? I was under the impression that you can never leave it in the bottle too long

Good job!

Leave the rest of it out in the cold until April and try again to see if it improves even more.

Wouldn't the Weizen (i presume this is wheat) malt and the WB-06 yeast make it cloudy anyway????

i.e. - it's a Weiss beer and it's meant to be cloudy!

Even so, might be worth letting it condition a little longer than two weeks to get the best reward for the hard work.

I like the head and the pils glass - I actually fancy one of those now...

I'm also thinking it's supposed to look like that too. Nice and cloudy wheat beer given the amounts of wheat and yeast used it looks good as is.
Planning - Not for a long while

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Drinking - Still...Whiskey
