Been meaning to do this one for about 2 years now and today's the day for it. Such a good beer!

London Porter (1850) Whitbread's Porter Brewery, London

Size: 25.0 L
Original Gravity: 1.067
Terminal Gravity: 1.017
Alcohol: 6.66%

Bitterness: 78 IBU

Ingredients:
5900 g Maris Otter Pale Ale Malt
1150 g Brown Malt
400 g Black Malt
40.0 g Northdown (6.1%) - First Wort Hopped
100 g Goldings (5.0%) - 60.0 min

1 x Nottingham + 1 x Windsor. Why not?

Mature 4-5 months

I too have been meaning to make that for donkeys as well, I keep buying the stuff then it gets used for something else

I forgot from the last time how un fit-for-purpose my MT is when it comes to Durden Park beers, it was full right up to the top. Literally about 25mls away from over-flowing

Nice! I'm going to brew that recipe soon. I've got a Pendle Witches Brew clone I'm going to do, largely because I just had a fabulous bottle of it. The last one I had was total crap.

Well this disappeared into a cool Yorkshire cellar last weekend for some summer conditioning. Think I'll allow myself a sneaky bottle sometime in July to see how its getting on

Brown malt has changed a lot of the 19th Century as it no longer and an diastatic enzymes. the stuff used in the early 1800's would have but after the invention of the drum roasting (1812-15 i think) this began to drop off. Modern does not have any but still needs to be mashed, but its fantastic in porter and stouts and well worth playing around with
