I managed to mess up with my water quantities some how and fell 2 litres short so the water top up was required which droped the gravity to 1055 which is aceptable.

Nice one Damfoose, your setup is looking better and better. Were the bits in the mash due to your false bottom plate lifting ?
Planning - Not for a long while

Fermenting - I'm Done

Bottle Maturing - Hobgoblin, Fullers ESB, American Stout, TOP, Fullers London Porter, Bandini Black IPA

Drinking - Still...Whiskey

Nice one! Looks like you had fun.

If I might make a recommendation to ease your gardening chores, a Sheen X300 flame gun is by far the best weeding device I've ever found. It's like a civilian flame thrower with a 2000C flame. You just play the flame across the weeds briefly which stops the sap rising. 2 or 3 days later, they are dried up and crispy, so you give them another shot with the flame gun which incinerates anything left.

It's great - I weeded the borders of our property on SUnday while I was mashing and boiling. None of that boring old pulling out weeds business, just a roaring jet of flame. I did nearly set our hedge on fire though.

Looks like you had a good day, brilliant photo,s, thanks for sharing your brewday with us. I find Roundup weed killer is the boyo for killing weeds. Personly I,ve not had much succes using a flame gun, they get rid of the annual weeds ok but seem to struggle on perrenial weeds. Any way I think you earn,t a rest and a pint today.

The area that I cleared had not been touched for I dont know how long even way before I moved in so their was alot of soil that needed lifting as well. The real problem I have is IVY it gets everywhere and as fast as I kill it off it returns in another patch of the garden. so far I have cut it down and drilled into the top of the root then poured in some extra strong weed killer into the drilled hole, I am starting to win but it is taking time.

As for the mash problems or should I say run off I think it may be because i was using the last of the bag of grain which has more small bits in it.
