Alpha Ale - first ever AG

ingredients - 3.5 kg pale malt, 0.5kg crystal malt and 50g flaked maize. 30g fuggles, 20g Challenger, 5g aroma fuggles and safale english ale yeast

mashing away in a bruheat mash tun/boiler in a mashing/sparge bag.

after sparging here is the grain bed, all nice and settled

lovely sweet tasting wort

the boil! hops added in inside a hop bag. irish moss added for clearing

draining into fermenting bin

primary fermentation with airlock and heating belt

Image

then racked into a keg, with 50/50 sugar and spraymalt and gelatin . added a bit more spraymalt a week in.

And the final result!

Nice work, Nano. Looks you like had an impressively smooth first AG.

I love your nano brewpub. Great place to meet birds by the looks of it. :roll: Mind you, by my standards it's positively macro.

only ever done a few kits so i was really surprised at how easy it could be to turn out something like that. always expect homebrew to be like paint stripper!

the community and vast knowledge behind the homebrew scene is quite incredible.

just need to get some kind of 3 tier gravity frame now!

Great stuff! Lovely looking pint, and that's an impressive-looking brewhouse - it puts my outside bog arrangement to shame =D>

hehe thanks everyone, the wendy house was there when we arrived. the previous owners two kids must have had fun in there. Good thing about it is that it has a heater and a light in there. So until we have kids its the brew wendy house :)

so yes am looking forward to carrying on the AG brewing.

Can you stand up in the Wendy-brew-house? Some of them are meant for small people :(

yes you can stand up in there! When i have been locked out of the house its been a life saver. Even more now with beer being conditioned in there ;)
