A friend has asked me to brew a beer for his daughter's christening next month. First time someone has asked me to brew a batch specifically for them.

His request was for a darker style beer (ruby to you and me, he hates porters).

His Daughter's name is Lola, and he's a bit of rock fan, hence the name the name of the ale :-)

Anyhew here's the recipe I've put togther for tomorrow:

Rock n Lola

Not too sure about the caramalt, I'm told it adds toffeeness without the burnt, nutty taste - can anyone comment?

Fingers crossed for tomorrow.

Mash on @ 67ish (bleary eyed from too much APA last night)

oh and added 200g of torrified wheat cause I had some in stock, caution to the wind and all that.

Nice recipe good luck with it. I was going to call my youngest Lola when she was born, but my wife is a fan of The Kinks and the request was met with an emphatic no

AFter a phone call with my mate during the mash, he stated that he loved Hobgoblin.

So, I ended up liquoring back before the boil and swapping the goldings out for Styrians to try and get a more of a Wychwood HG clone.

Ended up with circa 50L @ 1044.

Bubbling away nicely as of last night
