Extract Brew #003 - Coniston Bluebird Bitter

Post by WishboneBrewery » Fri May 08, 2009 6:05 pm

Things went quite well, though I could have done with adding a few more litres during the boil as I only collected about half what i was supposed to, so I had to let it down with more water once in the FV. Kept running upstairs and using this http://www.collectionsoft.com/mybrewcollection/hc0.html untill I got the Gravity to just above what it should have been.
Its sat in the bath now cooling off, next step has to be a immersion cooler as soon as I start making longer brew lengths.
Will be pitching Safale s-04 as son as I've got the temperature down.

Bulldog Blend Maris Otter - 1490 grams
Crystal Malt - 96 grams
Challenger - 60 mins 14 grams
Challenger - 30 mins 17 grams
Challenger - 20 mins 11 grams

Final Volume: 13 Litres
Original Gravity: 1.036
Final Gravity: 1.008
Alcohol Content: 3.6% ABV
Bitterness: 38 EBU
Colour: 26 EBC

No pictures as it would have looked almost exactly like my last brew ;)

Yep, I spotted you'd said you'd talked to the head brewer and been given tips on your hop schedule, so I though I may as well adjust mine as it was straight off HopandGrain recipes ;)

Fingers crossed, I'm just a bit dubious of the "Bulldog Blend Maris Otter Extract", who knows if I'm going to get a Twang to it or not?!?!?!

Let's hope it's OK. It should still turn out better than a kit in any case.
Best wishes

Just having a little test of this... so thought I'd update.
half a pint gone already, its not bad, the Challenger hops (which have none of the harsh bitterness and are much more rounded) are coming out now, and week or two more and I reckon it will improve some more. :)
