Really enjoyed that. I am just about to put together a mash tun like yours, after having a stuck mash EVERY time I use my converted cool box. Was also reassuring to see that besides all the pipes etc, my process is fundamentally the same as yours so I know I am doing OK!

Thanks for the video. Interesting to see batch sparging in action with an underback. Me, I simply copied the way the local micro did it and fly sparged, but what you're doing looks quite a simple way of doing things. Also interested in the amount of water profiling you did. Do you already know the local water profile? I resume so as you seem to add to gain an accepted concentration of carbonate. Most people shove in a teaspoon rather like throwing a penny in the fountain it seems. I figure that until I know the profile and the chemistry, not to bother is best.

Mine do too. My Old Speckled Hen clone from GWs book is noticeably paler that the real thing and my mild, which is virtually identical with Holden's Mild from GWs book, looks like a bitter. These were extract brews with the grains steeped at ~65C for 30 minutes.

Nice Vid Chris, I've noticed the paler issue with GW's recipes, that why I always fix the colour with gravy browning which I believe is one of your many tips
