AG # 3 Mini Mash 22 July 2009
Posted: Thu Jul 23, 2009 8:21 am
After 6 months "Away" from brewing, decided to break myself back in via a mini mash. Based the recipe on the bitter recipe from 18000feet but tweaked slightly to use up the grain and hops I had left over.
1200g Pale Malt
60g Crystal
24g Fuggles in total (16g at 90 and 8g at 15 mins)
Pinch Irish Moss
Collected 8 litres at around 1040. Then (due to an unexpeceted childcare commitment) had to postpone the boil. I sterilised a small coolbox and poured the wort in and had to leave for around 3 hours. On return it was still warm and was much clearer. After the boil ended up with 5 litres at approx 1050. The only yeast I had was from a brewbuddy kit (As I said using up bits and bobs) but it is bubbling away well this morning.
Hope the fact that the ingredients have been lying around for a few months won't affect the quality too much. Now I have cleared the decks,it's time to scale up (I keep saying this but yet to take the plunge). Maybe I'll build my boiler this weekend
Just a quick note to say thanks to all for your support and inspiration. I have been brewing for around 4/5 years on and off. Every time I need some reassurance or help, there is always something or somebody on this site to set me right.
