Coco Pops Mild 2009-08-13
I'm in a silly mood so am brewing this just to see what happens:
BL ~10L
170g coco pops
1500g pale malt
100g chocolate malt
50g dark crystal malt
mash temp 69ºC
(quite warm to counteract the thinning of body from the rice)
estimated OG 1033

Can't wait to hear how it turns out. I used to love coco pops (probably still would).

Good luck with this, IS.
If my calculations are correct, each pint will provide you with 7% of your RDA of thiamin, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin B6, folic acid, and vitamin B12.

Coco pops won't actually thin the body; the enzymes will make the same sugars from rice as they do from the malt. You will still get the usual maltose, maltotriose, dextrin etc from whatever adjunct you use. It's still a good idea to mash a mild ale warm though

That'll make a great breakfast beerInvalid Stout wrote:I'm in a silly mood so am brewing this just to see what happens:

Why do people always say corn, rice etc will make a beer lighter in body then?mysterio wrote:Coco pops won't actually thin the body; the enzymes will make the same sugars from rice as they do from the malt. This is the stickiest mash I have ever had. Don't let your kids eat these things!

It dilutes the flavour, not the body, they are two easy things to conflate. Why do people always say corn, rice etc will make a beer lighter in body then?
I think you are channeling the spirit of PieOPah here, he had a beer with 3 different breakfast cereals once, I remember

..."so chocolatey they even turn the beer brown!..."
Should be an interesting one. Let us know how it turns out.

Looks good - looks like a thick mash. Will there be a slice of toast going in later on in the mash?

Re: Coco Pops Mild 2009-08-13
The toast would probably be OK but I'm a bit worried about his forthcoming Bacon and Egg Bitter....
