My second all grain brew and first outing of the new shiny mash tun and strainer.

Another excellent kit from Barley Bottom. Took around 6 hours from start to finish. Mash didn't stick at all and the run into the boiler was much better this time :D

Writeup with pictures

The OG was 1045 not 1047. Not sure why its a bit low - any ideas?

Drinking the old yella atm - a bit early but it's already really good. Got the carbonation spot on this time too :)

Having your mash filter up against the sides of the tun may be problematic as there's the opportunity for wort to flow between the grain bed and tun wall straight into the filter.

You're still going to make nice beer though :)

I wish I could say that my second all grain brew was as organised and efficient as yours. Well done, that looks like a nice drop =D>

Thanks guys. Spending more time on the equipment so it works well has paid dividends.

Beerengine says my efficiency is 70.3% which isn't great. I coiled the strainer back onto itself so it was a tighter loop and not just against the sides. Not sure what else to do really - sparge water was around 77C so maybe a little low ?

I think you should RF tag yourself and put the reader on the on the door to the place you store most beer... then we can keep track of your drinking habits! ;)
Dropping 2 points on the OG isn't bad, I think I have more to worry about than the possible final alcohol content. So long as it tastes good, stuff it :)

What was the temperature when you took the OG? I usually take my readings before pitching so the wort is about 28oC which can account for a few points. Having said that a few points either way isn't that bad :D

I think around 26C - It read 1044 so corrected that's apparently 1045.

Bubbling away nicely now :)
