Timothy Taylor Best Bitter 06/09/09

I am trying the Timothy Taylor Best Bitter recipe from the new edition of Graham Wheeler BYOBRA.

Mod edit, sorry Keith but as it's from the newer edition of Wheeler, the recipe has been removed, anyone wanting the recipe should buy the book, it's well worth it

I just have to comment - I disagree with you removing the recipe, it is not copyrightable as it is just a list of ingredients and it is altered from the book anyway as it is a double batch.

Big Batch, I must try a large one as soon as I am happy with my false bottom.
any chance of a long shot on the next pics of your MT and stuff.

Well the recipe calls for "Some Hops" at the 10 minute mark so I just used the EKG as that is what I had, I suppose you could use Styrians or Bobek instead.

See my post above for some pics of my shiney stuff.

I did have a false bottom in my MT but I found it didnt work very well so went back to a copper manifold it seems to work much better. It may have been that the wholes in my false bottom were too big.

I think the 'some hops' thing actually means Styrian Goldings in the case of the TTL :)

Ah but this isn't TTL this is TTBB. As you say the Landlord recipe definitely states Styrian Goldings where as the Best Bitter recipe is vague and apparently any hops will do :). In any case I prefer Goldings to Fuggles so would rather use EKG than Styrian.

"Some hops" does indeed refer to EKG's for all recipes in the book that have that omission.

Legally you're probably right, but Graham is a member of this forum and has given tons of advice free of charge, so the least we can do is not undermine sales of his book by posting the recipes.

Fair enough but I did buy the book and I seriously doubt that allowing recipe ingredients to be posted is going to lose a single sale of the book but what it may do is convince someone to buy it as the book is not so much about the recipes, its about the knowledge and advice and even without a single recipe makes the book well worth the purchase.
