It's been a while since I posted even though I have been pretty busy on the brewing. This is one of 2 brews I'm doing for a friends stag do. We'll be having a poker evening and drinking ourselves silly. The recipe is based on Sam Smiths outmeal stout, I guess Betty must be his very big sister. The name comes from Leadbelly's old tune, I like it...

4.5kg - Pale malt
250g - Chocolate Malt (Pale)
130g - Black Malt
350g - Oat Flakes (Quaker outs)

Sovereign Hops - 58g in boil 60min
Sovereign Hops - 10g at flame out
Yeast - Safale SO4

Single Infusion mash, 90min at 65 deg C

I used wheelers beer engine to get this and aimed at 20 litres with 75% efficiency which would have given me an OG 1058 and EBU 35. What I got was 22 litres at OG 1060, so efficiency was 85% and EBU 31. Fermentation ended at 1016 which puts the beer at 5.7% abv.
I've made this before and loved it, this time it is a little stonger though, looking forward to it. \:D/

The recipe print out through beer goggles.

lovely black wort into the boiler, smells awesome.

My whole system, all working in unison. Not exactly Brewporn but it does the job and I'm in tune with it.

In go the hops, still my favourite time of the day, always prompts the pouring of a beer.
When we start to drink this one I'll try and get a picture up...
