Well opportunity arose at the weekend when we got an unexpected visit from the inlaws.

The nephew took a liking to a beer i made a while ago and i promised him i would let him help brew next time he came.. So i kept my word, threw the wife into the frontroom ( cos she could hardly let me break a promise eh...)

It was a short brew of 10 litres ( i'll post the recipe when i get home as i don't have it here.)


This time i took it reall easy, there was no stuck sparge, and towards the end ( at around 14 liters ) the OG was 1008 and still a nice darkish brown colour.
After the hotbreak there was 33 g EKG in for the fulll 60 minute, with a further 16 grams in at 0 when the chiller went in.

A pack of safeale 04 in too in order to try and keep a little of ther residual sweetness i like in a stout. Fermentation is well on the way although a little slow in regard to action in the air lock. I am putting this down to the FV be ing under half full. OG into the FV was at 1046, i would hope this will be finished in primary around friday of this week.

Next excuse is that i need to get the christmas brew done. And the cider i want to make needs good time to mature.

There may well be about 120 bottles of beer in the house, but its not all at the drinking stage and I want to have more variety... Pales, Bitters, Darks, Stouts.
Did the stout on Saturday, another stout in the planning for next week or the week after.
As you say, Christmas is coming... Maybe I could do something for Christmas presents, the last couple of years people got our home made Chutney! No Chutney this year!

You see the stout was done as i had promised the nephew, The cider i have to put on is due to a guy giving me a load of apple concentrate,

The halft term tippler will be done somewhere around 6-9 October, and i'll be using this as the mild christmas beer ( and cos i have the stuff but it will only go bad if i don't use it soon.......)

The christmas beer that needs brewing soon sis because the guy who taught me basically needs help to brew it and it would be rude to say no......


Personally i think its good to have beer in the house, it keeps for months and is always good to offer påeople when they visit, and to give away as gifts!!

Well the reading was down to 1018 yesterday and i fear there may be a stuck fermentation.

The advice from the bard to leave it will be done though and we'll have to see what happens over the next few days.

the last 15 liter batch i did was finished fermenting in 5 days, we are now on day 4 so i'll take another sample this evening.

The EKG was put in at zero and left in for cooloing, not much aroma though, but i trust that most stouts are like this.
