As the temperature is dropping I thought I'd make a simple beer. It's currently 16º in the hall of my flat.
> 95% Lager malt with a tiny bit of amber for colour
Mash at 68º
Nelson Sauvin hops to a bitterness of 36
Target OG 1039
Ferment with Nottingham at 16º
Any opinions?

Being a hophead I would say you need aroma hops.
Unless of course you get all your bitterness from the 15 min addition.

Sorry, forgot to put that in. 40% of the hops are at 90min, the rest at 0 min

Well that was easy. I used my mango chutney boiler although I haven't finished it yet ... will have to pour it through a sieve into the FV! But I didn't electrocute myself or flood the kitchen, although I do now have a fair bit of water vapour floating about, hope it doesn't get damp.

Get a fan to blow the vapour out of an open window for next time.

A simple ale made with kiwi hops is one of the finer things in life! Should be good!

Ended up with a respectable 1048 instead, must not have used as much water as I thought. And pitched US-05 which is now bubbling away.

Is that 5% Amber going to give you the 'Shepherd Neame' type flavour??
