APA - Pale Imitation

Post by Neal » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:08 pm

Joining in the recent trend for SNPA-type brews, and finally getting permission to brew again after the great pear juice flood fiasco, I knocked this up on Saturday:
For 23L @ SG 1.054
90min, 67C mash:
5.00 kg Pale Malt, Maris Otter (5.9 EBC) Grain 96.15 %
0.20 kg Caramel/Crystal Malt (100.0 EBC) Grain 3.85 %
20.00 gm Target [11.00 %] (90 min) Hops 21.2 IBU
20.00 gm Perle [5.40 %] (90 min) Hops 10.4 IBU
20.00 gm Cascade [7.60 %] (10 min) Hops 5.8 IBU
60.00 gm Cascade [7.60 %] (30 min steep @ 80C)
1.00 items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
1 Pkgs Safale (#US-05) Yeast-Ale

Ended up with a nice pale, clear wort:

Made up a 1L starter with the US-05 to see if I could lose the peachy taste I got last time I used it by pitching more - and it's gone a bit beserk and splurged out on the floor! (cleared it up pretty quickly though)

Sneaky taster today after 4 days in the FV and it's tasting pretty nice already. :D
