It is clever how dark malty ales and Stouts improve over time, my Otter dark Stout brewed back in September has really come into its own now that I only have 2 bottles left!!!!
I'm not sure I have the patience for a YEAR!! Hope its a good one

No worries about mash tun size, plenty of room left. I could have done a full 20L brew

oh well I've never done a 10%ABV brew before so it's all a learning curve

. I did drop the grist/liqueur ratio from 2.5L/kg to 2 so that will have helped. Just about to start sparging after a 90 min mash!

I just don't understand why you put hops in dirty engine oil!!
Looking very good

LOL thanks matey. The efficiency was well low on this one, 67.7%, so it's only gonna be 8.1

not the 10.1ABV I was after but I recon it's gonna be a winner anyway

It looks like a good one, I am sure that 8.1 abv will be more than fine. I am wondering if you ever put spray malt into your brews when you find yourself not hitting your gravity?
Cheers

thanks 6470zzy,
I haven't put any spray malt in a brew before when not hitting the gravity, to get this up to 10.1% would need a fair whack of DME and I'm not too keen on the taste of extract. I'm willing to be persuaded though if you've had some success with it?

This is sort of off topic, but i use a BURCO tea urn as my boiler and i was wondering what size tap you replaced the original one with.

Hi, it is a 15mm tap bought from a guy on ebay

I figured I could get all the parts separately, drill out the tank connector olive etc, but it would have probably cost about the same and been a ball ache as I have limited access to tools. I ordered it on a Tuesday night and it arrived Thursday morning.

Well i've just taken a sample off to test the SG and it's down too 1.030 already

62% attenuation in just under 3 days

Looks like a choose the right yeast for the job. Obviously I had a taste

. Bloody hell this is gonna be good stuff

It's young don't get me wrong but the hops and malt are about perfect with each other I recon. Even at 7.1%ABV you get a bit of heat from the alcohol.
Gonna have to go down to Coopers in Guiseley and get a bottle of the proper stuff to remind my self of the taste. Even if this is nowhere near it's gonna be a good one!
How I'm gonna keep this for a year I have no idea

LOL
