Pretty much snowed in yesterday, doesnt take that much to cause chaos on the roads round here. So what else to do but get a brew on!

Boiling away in the snow.


I was without an evil assistant, so I made one.


AG #12: Snowed-in bitter
Brew length: approx 50L

7608g Pale Malt, Marris Otter (from Warminster)
325g Crystal malt
67g black malt
20L Mash liquor (2.5x)
6 ml conc. HCl
1/2 Campden tab

Hot Liquor temp: 73ºC
Mash temp: 66ºC
Mash time: 90 mins

25L Sparge water
Sparge temp: 75-80ºC
4ml conc HCl
1/2 Campden tab

Boil time: 90 mins
Hops:
104g (4.1% aa) Fuggles at start (dry in copper before wort added)
Protafloc last 15 mins
25g East Kent Goldings (4.3% aa) at start of cool down.

Yeast: Safeale S04 x2
OG 1048

Hardest part was defrosting the hosepipe so I could run water to the immersion cooler.

Yep, proper oldskool beer colour

Yeah, I figured if I manage to set the shed on fire it would be a good idea to be able to get the gas out of the equation easily!

It was about 1ºC outside, but a good deal warmer than that in the shed once the burner was lit. The snow on the roof was melting pretty quickly!
