Posted: Sun May 16, 2010 12:18 am
First Brew Day. Trying to emulate a Brewdog Trashy Blonde but @ 5%.
Okay, here we go.
Boiler on 7.25am. 29L.
Boiling at 9am,
just in time for Fuse, my mentor, to arrive to assist.
Weigh out grains: 4.45kg MO, + 100g Crystal malt.
Into the MT at 75°C (68°C ST)
for 90 min with a good stir.
Re-circ Sparge with ~60L (now considering pumped option
)
About 7.5L into FV.
Fill with remaining water, and re-sparge for 30 min.
Draw off and re-circ until clear, ~ 40L.[http://www.flickr.com/photos/50285967@N04/4616327667/](
Into the boiler. Once upto boil, add:
v
25g Simco hops - 90min
10g Amarillo hops - 15min
10g Ahtanum hops - 15 min
Chiller in to sterilize.
40g Amarillo - 0min
40g Ahtanum - 0 min.
Steep - 30min.
Chiller on for 30 min.
Sterilize FV with VWP for ~30 min, rinse x3.
Pour off into FV. ~ 19L.

Check hydrometer reading - 1.054.
Sprinkle sachet of S-04, lid on, and put to rest.
All done by 3.30pm.
Okay, the technical stuff: (thanks to Beer Engine)
11.4L mash vol
28.5L total vol.
OG 1.050
FG 1.012
Efficiency 70%
Final vol - 19L
Now, clearly being my first brew I haven't a clue what all this means.
Several elbows worth of grease later, all kit ready for next brew tomorrow. AG#2 will be a dark brew. Watch this space.
Once I've figured out how to add pics, this will be updated.
Thanks to Leyland for boiler, H&G for chiller and small malts, BorisCharlton for hops, Fuse for mash tun, Wilko's for accesories, and local brew shop for MO grain and bits.
Power to the AG'ers.
Gothamite.
Sorry for the delay, and not all in the right order, but hey not bad for first ever AG brewday.
Will nowupload photos for AG#2 and submit.
Hooray, AG#3 come Sunday!!!
