mash on bang on 66oc getting this everytime now

mash over lost half of a degree top up now to top then stir it and cover it leave for 15mins my little helper making sure i am doin it right lol

first run off nice and black

into the boiler with FWH 20g northdown 20g challenger

end of mashing 34 litres collected what is this mud type stuff though any help been getting this since i started water treament never had it before!

boiler as full as i can get without a volcanic eruption that i get since water treament FWH floating around now

just coming to the boil

running of after cooling got it to 25oc this time stirring for half hour at the start of cooling. didnt take more pics in between boil and cooling as a decided a few beers were in order and i got pretty drunk again

The gain billjust looks like Pale although naturaly it is not:)

pale malt 4900 grams
amber malt 200 grams
black malt 200 grams
chocolate malt 200 grams
torriefied wheat 200 grams

challenger 22grams 90minutes (fwh)
northdown 22grams 90 minutes(fwh)

challenger 22grams 10minutes
northdown 22grams 10minutes

2 handfulls of fuggles @ 5 minutes

used us-05 yeast as the nottingham i had smelt of rotten eggs when re-hydrated!

I think your 'mud' is just the finest starch particles that fall out of suspension as you drain your tun. I get 'em whether I treat or not. It's more a function of your grind than anything else. I get my grains 'smashed' rather than rolled/crushed so I get a fair bit more 'flour' in my grist.

It's rarely a problem.
