Must be TTL time of year :)

Attempt to make something similar to Timothy Taylor's Landlord

Predicted OG 1045
Predicted FG 1011
IBU 35

4250g Golden Promise
100g Crystal
10g Carafa 3

25g EKG (6.8) @ 90
15 g Bobek (4.5) @ 90
20 g Bobek (4.5) @ 15
15 g Bobek (4.5) @ 0
15g EKG (6.8) @ 0

yeast WLP 037 Yorkshire Square

Due to very poor efficiency (1030 preboil) I added 454g of Holland & Barret malt extract to the boil. Actual OG was 1040. I had quite bad effiency in the brew before last (Confused Goat) and this one but it was spot on for the California Common inbetween them. Same grain, same equipment...so I'm not sure why it is happening.

It is bubbling away nicely at the moment.

Nice one :) I'll have to taste mine and check gravity today while I bottle my Bramling Cross IPA.

A few things to check , are your scales accurate so getting the same every time! Thermometer working! Water treatment! adjusting you sparge water to grain temp!
Could be bad batch of malt!!!

I'll check the scales but I think they are OK, thermometer is fine. I don't think it can be the grain as I've brewed a steam beer three days before this one using exactly the same malt and the same equipment and methods and the efficiency was normal for me.

Could water treatment have such a dramatic effect?

I find doing the water treatments properly does have a pretty healthy bearing on the Mash efficiency.

One to ponder then, the this one would have had different treatment since it is a bitter and the other two were a wheat beer and a lager which want softer water.
