AG #15 MY Splitter PA - Plus some Ginger beer. 2nd Feb 2011
I made an IPA a few weeks ago that has turned out great. I split the wort into 3 FV’s with different yeast in each. Im happy with the out come, And the one with Fullers yeast is absolutely bloody gorgeous. I know it won’t last me long, So had to get more on.
I decided on another IPA pretty much as the last one. I have some Worthington yeast that I’d like to try and I quite fancy making some ginger beer. So this time I will split it into 3 again. 10L IPA with Fullers yeast. 10L IPA with Worthington yeast. 5L Ginger beer also with Fullers yeast.
4.385 Kg Pale Malt, The odd 385g is just to empty a sack.
150g Amber Malt
150g Flaked Barley
150g Torrefied Wheat
Fuggles 125g 3.8AA 90 Min
Fuggles 20g 15 min – Remove the 4l for Ginger Beer before the 15min hops.
Fuggles 20g 0 min
5g Irish Moss 15 min
160g Root Ginger inc Skin. Chopped into small pieces in a food processor, Boiled in a pan with 1.5L water for 1.5hrs then added to the 4L of wort and fermented on its own with Fullers yeast.
EBU 54
EBC 9
OG 1043
The Ginger beer - 4l of Wort + 600ml Ginger Extract + 100g Demerara = 4.6L @ 1040. This Ginger Beer is an experiment, So don’t copy it until I have Tested/Tasted it.
I have been keeping the wort from the dead space at the bottom of the boiler + the last runnings from the mash. Boiled it all for 20 mins. To use for yeast starters etc. Got about 4l.

Might be best to wait until I've tasted it. Its untested as yet. But I did taste the Ginger water/extract and it was very fiery.simco999 wrote:Ginger beer idea sounds good - gonna try that
I may need to make it a few times and tweek it a bit before its worth doing a full batch. Thats why I only went for 5l.
