Water water water

Post by smeggedup » Sat Feb 12, 2011 8:12 pm

Hi guys

I'm currently building an all grain setup and just trying to make sure I get as much info as i can so that
I have a clear idea of the process an don't screw up lol, but I can't seem to find any info on how much hot water to put in the mash tun before dumping the grain in.
Any clues ?
Is their any ratio to grain ?
An how big a brew can I do in 50 litres pots ?

Cheers guys

An average grain to water ratio is 2.5:1 (2.5l of water to each 1kg of grain), although this is not set in stone and many use varying ratios from 1:1 to 3:1 :D I brew 10 gallons but use 60l pots, it fills my boiler up to about 2 inch from the rim! You would be able to get a brewlength of about 40 litres I suppose? Some one on here will be able to tell you more I'm sure.

Good luck. :D
If I had all the money I'd spent on brewing... I'd spend it on brewing!
