AG#6 Jennings Cumberland ale (BIAB with pics)

I needed to test my new additions to the Buffalo boiler, so did a Jennings ale today, slightly modified version of GW's recipe as I didnt have Challenger hops (so substituted with Fuggles)

Grains (Maris Otter, Torrefied Wheat, Sugar and Black Malt:

Hops (Fuggles and Goldings)

The boiler with mods - Temp Guage, Ball valve and Sight Glass:

Inside the boiler, heating the liquor (I use a stainless steel colander to protect the element as I was getting bits burnt on it) and a braided hose to filter

Bag onto boiler

Grain Mixed in

1 Degree over at start of Mash (Boiler Guage will need altering, is about 5 Degrees out!)

Thats where I'm up to at the moment, I will update with further pics when complete.

End of 90 minute mash, not too bad temp loss considering I didnt insulate the boiler

Bag out and into plastic bucket above a colander to collect runnings.

The collected runnings (not much from this brew, but it did have a smaller grain bill than normal)

Kettle on and start of boil
Image

Bittering hops in (in a hop bag)
Image

75 minutes into boil add protafloc, flavouring hops and wort chiller to sterilise
Image

Boil over, time for cooling (took 20 minutes to get down to 30)
Image

I left it in the kettle for a further hour, and it still hadnt droppped by much, so I decided to run it into the FV at 30
Image

And time to test my other new toy to reduce temperature
Image

Into the fridge and let the cooling begin

Dry pitched SO4, set temp to 20, and away we go. A succesful days brewing, and all the new kit seemed to work without too many issues.

I've recently treated myself to a 40ltr Bufalo boiler, really pleased with it. I like the idea of a sight glass, I might go there 8)
