I finally got all my kit together for my new brewery. I had the day off and couldnt wait to get started. So I got started without a recipe. With very limited time to plan one with a bit of help from some of you I chucked something simple together.

In my haste I threw all the grist in in one go. It was really stiff, a few liters of under letting worked really well to loosen things up. Ill try to keep this post updated if anyones interested..

I might have to try underletting now I have my new mash tun, how was your mash doing it this way?

Very smart looking setup there! Should last you for years too, great stuff.

I like the teeny little pump - think I'll be using one of those soon instead of gravity, but i'd not considered the possibilities of under-letting. Hmm...

@pdtnc, I mashed as "normal" ie put in water to preheat then doughed in. Then only underlet a few liters. it worked great for making sure the grains are all wet but im sure if you have a strong spoon you can do this just as easily.

yes the pump is a bit out of proportion. It was my first time using a pump. For the concept of saving your back and having everything on one tier I think there good but I had some real trouble with it today. Like when you want to move a tube to another valve you get wort everywhere and a few other issues, maybe they just take getting used too

Great stuff Buddy, hope it was a simple brew session for you, I have just stuck a batch in the FV, after a bit of a late start.

Thanks GARYSMIFF, took your advice of going with the flow and just went for it. TBH is wasnt an easy session. Getting used to the new kit and pump etc also felt in a hurry all the time! but was still great fun!

I'm must be getting better or forgetting things , I was always rush rush but I now try to have a Plan B so the fear has turned to Joy, must be all those nights of running it over in my head b4 I had my RIMS setup.

Where did you get your Keg from and is it 50 Litres?
I think my only sensible brew-length-upgrade with current gas burner (looks like yours) would be buying a Keg to convert.

Yes there both 50L. Really a funny size in hindsight as not much bigger than a 30L plastic bucket and much heavier! Also the burner is a little weak for boiling 45 odd liters so didn't get a noticeable hot break. I noticed today I can adjust how much air gets into the flame which may increase the power slightly. Ive had under powered boilers in the past and beer always tasted good!

I'm on Natural Gas and have never adjusted the collar for air intake, or needed to, I just assumed it was sort of Factory set.
