AG#12 Hubble Bubble - let this be a warning to you.

Well it had to happen - stuffed one - possibly recovered it but what a disaster.

No probs with the mash - boil went ok.

In with the cooler - cooling nicely - so I went to watch the telly.

I came back to it after around 40 mins. All looked good. Hang on a minute thats heavy. From around 25 litres after the boil there was about 50 litres in my boiler.

My cooler had leaked. I put the lid on and went to bed in disgust.

Anyways I boiled off as much as I could the next night. I had some on the gas cooker in the kitchen as well. Boiled off the best part of 30 litres and left to cool overnight again.

Chucked in a FV the day after. Its now brewing but god knows what it'll come out like.

It could have been worse.

If you had a smaller boiler you would have had 30 litres of diluted wort in the boiler and 20 litres on the floor.

or you could pump pond water aroound your cooler :-&

Cheers Guys.

The thought had crossed my mind Steve. Its bad enough when you spill 1 litre but 20 - I'd be mopping for about six weeks.

I decided that when I get round to using an IC I'll be using the pond water for it so I don't run off too many gallons through my meter but this is exactly the thing I've worried about!

So how long does it take to boil off 25 litres of water?

Good luck with the beer!

Thanks Lugsy - about 4 hours - both in the boiler and on the kitchen hob.

Never seen so much steam!!!

Can you even imagine how pi***d off our respective WAG's would be if that happened? :x

I am still apologising for a bottle of red wine that went boom in the utility room while conditioning!

Sometimes I think it is just me at the Fawlty Towers brewery but reading this post makes me realise it happens to us all sometimes!

Hi Dean
That reminds me of an 'incident' in our first house year's ago

Red wine stored in wine rack under stairs
Come back from work to find red line (on cream carpet) crossing living room from wine rack to other wall

SWMBO NOT happy.

Nowadays I'm not allowed to brew outside the garage.

And i thought it was a disaster when i missed my OG by 5 points, you have way more worries [-o<

Sounds like you need to do some dry hopping now, try to reclaim some flavour to balance out what might be a bitter brew, depending on the ammout of hops you originally used?

You read my mind - maybe a hop tea? Or dry hop - any suggestions??

That would depend on what beer you were brewing. From your signature I'm guessing it's a weisse? In which case probably not much need for tea/dry hopping, just let the yeasties do their thing. Or maybe a little bit of tea from your preferred hop to make up for any flavour/aroma you may have lost from a 4 hour boil!

Settled for a hop tea. Bottled it on Monday night. Tasted ok out of the FV - nothing special. If its fairly drinkable I'll be happy.
