Long time no post, I did brew a couple of pale ales the same week but no time for pics. Brewed yesterday (Sunday)
Based on jamesb's recipe on thbf
23l
Estimated OG 1.047
Actual OG 1.045
Estimated FG 1.012 FG
Bitterness 19 IBU
Grist
2.50 kg Wheat Malt
1.40 kg Pilsner malt
0.60 kg Maris Otter
Hops and other stuff
50.00 g Hallertauer (2.8 ) 60 mins
20.00 g Willamette (6.7) 10 mins
10g Corriander Seed (crushed) 10 mins
2kg kiwi fruit peeled and chopped 5 mins
wlp400 recultured, fermented at 20*C
Lots of cheap kiwi fruit (5 packs each around 440g) so I thought I would give this recipe a go.
Mash
Boil

Hallertauer

Willamette

Choppedkiwi fruit (about 1.5kg)

Coriander with the starter behind (it was around 2l, cooled and most of the wort poured

Cooling
Now fermenting away with big frothy head.

looks good mate! If it's half as good as the other fruit wits/saisons you have done it'll be a cracker!

might make it's way to the next NVB meet?

If I'm at the next NCB meet and it doesn't go horribly wrong I'll a couple of bottles. I think it will be less fruity than the blackcurrant or gooseberry, quite a bit of the fruit stayed in the boiler. I guess the idea is to reduce the risk of infection with the brief boil.

I hope you serve in a tall glass with a slice of kiwi and a straw!

I'm surprised you didn't wear an All Black's shirt to brew it in!

I think that is what jamesb based his recipe on, I suppose this is becoming a kind of brewing Chinese Whispers...

Bottled 20l yesterday, I'll stick a photo of a glass (with appropriate dressing) at some point. It was slightly fruity and slightly tart but neither character was anywhere near as strong as it was in my earlier fruit wits, I guess putting the fruit in the boil changes things but without doing a side by side comparison I can't know for sure.
I'm pretty pleased with this one at the moment I think it will be a nice summer drink once it has got a bit of condition, so thanks to jamesb (and Sam Calagione) for the recipe.
