I'm really pleased with how the first batch seems to be turning out, i have just had a taste and it is wonderful, loads of deep malt flavour and a nice complex taste with a really long lovely aftertaste.
Scaled down to a 23L batch for tomorrow. Going to put both elements on in the boiler when the IM goes in to give a good rolling boil in an attempt to get rid of the dreaded HAZE.
4050gm Marrs Otter Grain 94.6%
230gm Crystal Malt Grain 5.4 %
50gm Challenger [aa 6.80%] (90 min) 37.6 IBU
23gm Styrian Goldings [aa 2.00%] (15 min) 2.4 IBU
9gm Oregon Fuggles [4.90%] (15 min) 2.3 IBU
1.00 tsp Irish Moss (Boil 15.0 min)
66 degree mash for 90 mins
The usual 6am start!

I get them from my local Micro Brewery, they are really friendly. Get charged £1.50 per 100g for any hops and £17.50 for a 25kg sack of crushed MO.

Just pitched the yeast starter.
Collected 23L at 1048 which is a new record for me, beersmith tells me
that thats an 86.3% brewhouse efficiency!
A few things that I did differently today:
I actually weighted out 5g of IM rather than going with 1tsp so I used about twice what I normally would.
I turned the 2nd element on for the last 15 mins for a vigorous boil. (DaaB suggestion)
I added 2L water to the boiler as I was draining it to dilute what was going to be left in the hops (DaaB suggestion)
Not sure if this is the reason for the improved efficiency or not?
I seemed to have more break material in the boiler than normal so fingers crossed this one might not have the dreaded haze
