I'm gonna be making a Normal Best Bitter today for the arrival of a little half pint of my own now due 28/08/07!! originally thought it was coming October

I've got

4kg pale Malt
238g Crystal
either S-04 or Gervin English Ale yeast

and a choice of these hops in the quantities i have of them

Target 100g
Goldings 37g
Northdown80g
Challenger 30g

What do you think i should do in regard with the hops?

I'd like to try the Target hops as the use by date is next month!

Any ideas?

well i've finished mashing and now its boiling,

after all the fantastic suggestions for the hops  i've decided to go for 35g Target for the full boil with 10g Goldings at switch off.

I'm using the Gervin Ale yeast

everythings going ok - except for the weather!

Hi LTP, hope you have a good one! (I didn't reply as my suggestions are normally bad ones!)

BTW I bet your plans for getting a nursery ready have gone up a gear! :D

Cheers Wez, and i thought no one liked me :(

We're so behind with the nursery and everything else - its really come too soon financially for us so but we'll be alright, it'll never be as hard as when my parents brought me and my brother up!

I'm emptying the nursery room inbetween brewing! not as easy as i first thought! and i thought weekends were for relaxing!

at least the brews going well (so far!)

I got 30 litres and it hadn't got down to 1006 - i ran out of containers to hold it!!

I used
3.7kg pale Malt
238g Crystal

i'm rushing round like a blue arsed fly at the moment, got the brew going, clearing the nursery room, explaining what i want doing to the plumber and a builders just turned up to start on the yard a day early!! and SWMBO has gone bloody shopping again!!

i'll be fine though - its all prioritised:
Brew,
Builder,
Plumber,
Nursery,
abusing SWMBO on the text! :D

Thats a hefty bit of multitasking there LTP, don't let the last one distract you too much.

the builders have gone - didnt have the right stuff on the van! (think they got me confused with another job they had today)

The plumbers gone, to return monday.

SWMBO is still gone :D

My boilers gone :( Its tried to keep a rolling boil but the thermostat keeps cutting out and i have to wiggle the connection to make it come on again, which it does for about a minute!

I was going to buy a bigger boiler anyway and use this one for the sparge water so i suppose i'm gonna have to do that sooner than i thought.

any idea where i can get a 30+ litre boiler from?

apart from that its great - and the suns come out (for a bit)

everythings done, its turned out at 1038 for 25 litres so i'm pretty happy with that :D

P****d off about the boiler though, need to get that sorted soon or brewdays gonna be lasting all day again!

I got a 10 gallon one from the H&G for about fifty quid. Two brews in it's going strong

I'm glad you sorted your brew out in the end and god knows you're going to need a few pints over the coming weeks.

Hope all goes well with the impending arrival. (The little-un not the beer)

its the first time i've claculated my efficiency - am i right in thinking i managed 81%?

3.75 kg Pale Malt
238g crystal malt

if so, thats one hell of an improvement from the virgin lager i made last week!

that'll do me, since the lager brew last week yeilded a measly 45%

its just finished fermenting so its gonna be bottled tomorrow. it actually smells like lager which is a start!
