Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale
TBF it's not that complex! But I am gonna keep the weights and measures to myself for now!

Just followed you now. Your only fault is that you watch RU instead of proper Rugbyleedsbrew wrote:Testing out a pale ale recipe today for the Saltaire brewey / Northern Craft Brewers competition

Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale
Secret test recipe? Getting a bit serious aren't we
Hope it goes well Neil.

Lol. Just keeping it competitive! lol
Yes, I'm looking to do a red rye US farmhouse ale. Should be interesting
All went well. Pretty standard brew-day. Still waiting for the yeast to kick off. The airlock is showing signs of pressure within the FV but no visible signs of fermentation on the surface of the wort yet. The wort smells amazing though. I've read about el dorado having a red jolly rancher type flavour and I could totally pick that out when smelling the wort.

Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale
some pics from the brewday
some fresh ingredients from Rob
a pretty pale grist
new hops for me this brew
mash temp spot on. Relatively low for a nice fermentable wort
2nd runnings came out nice and pale
Nice overall colour
a mix of pellet and whole cone hops.
Hops in
Nice and clear. I left it to settle after cooling while the Rugby was on.
Nice and clear going in the FV
Draining
FILTH
Properly rehydrated yeats!

Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale + PICS
loadsa pics Whats your OG for that 64c mash?
Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale + PICS
Yeah! Got a bit snap happy! 1.056 ! Not sure on the potential attenuation for this yeast but working on 75-78 ish.
Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale + PICS
Fermenting away nicely! The eagle eyed will notice fermentor hops!
Aromas of passion fruit, mango, papaya coming from the airlock! Delicious!
Re: Saltaire comp Test Pale ale + PICS
Do you know what the NHB yeast actually is Neil? I presume Rob hasn't started producing dried yeast himself...
Any report on how it compares to say US05 would be appreciated.

Good luck with the competition matey! I've got some of Rob's English Ale Yeast to try a split brew comparison with, it'll be good to hear how the one you're using performs.
