So, after many months of planning, designing, building and testing it's time for the first brew with the new shiney Clog and Thistle brewery. I used one of my regular recipes to make sure I had a good reference point.

Copper Beech Bitter
(for 28l)
4.75kg Pale Malt
0.35kg Crystal Malt
Mashed at 67deg for 90 mins
Boiled for 75 mins
50g Fuggles (at 55mins)
50g Bramling Cross (at 10mins)

The new brewery

The grain (apparently this is obligatory for a brewday post...)

Mashing

Transferring to the boiler and sparging

A good rolling boil

Chilling

In the fermentor (think i need to reinforce that shelf...)

Targetted 1041 and hit 1046! - much better efficiency :D

That's a sweet looking set up there - makes mine look very rural... What yeast did you go with?

I used 2 sachets of S-04, fermenting at 19.5 deg

Good to see you got your set-up working. Looks amazing. Feel rather embarassed about my primitive set-up. Managed to get a brew in over Easter - actually repeated my first AG recipe because it didn't work the first time. You may be pleased to know I sparged over tinfoil and not with the small pink (probably not food grade) plastic watering can.

Cheers

Jason

Very nice - apart from the shelf. I have visions of it gently folding and your shiny pot slowly falling out in a forward roll.

This would be a bad thing.

Thanks for that...have just gone and put a brick under the shelf. I suddenly had visions of be FV dented and the beer all over the garage floor

What size (L) is your SS FV?

It's a standard 33L Stockpot - the Bergland/ebay sort...

It is a bit too small, but I was limited by the size of the fermenting fridge, and didn't want to replace that too.
