9/7/07 Brewday - DRB's Bramling Beauty

Having a crack at this one today, first disaster came at weighing out the grain - A bloody mouse has been at my Maris Otter

I'm just hoping it hasn't left any 'adjuncts' in there

4.3kg M.O. Pale malt
280g Amber Malt
240g Flaked Barley
240g 'Terrified' Wheat :o

Bramling Cross Hops @ 6.5% AA

90 min Mash @ 66°C
90 min boil

15g Start of boil
47g Last 15 mins.
17g Last minute although I may increase this a bit & throw them in at switch off

Batch sparging as usual & I'm going for 30l pre-boil volume so my first addition will be 8.4l.

Mash liquor added at strike temp. of 77° which gave me cock on 66° mash temp 8)

Cheers chaps & thanks for the recipe DRB :=P

All done & dusted, I ended up steeping 20g of Bramling X for 30 mins

I had to top up at the end with about 2l of filtered water & I ended up with 23l @ 1.046

Chucked the rehydrated S-04 in at 24°C & it's now safely tucked up in the garage, near the mouse trap

Yes, I think you'r right Daab, I'm going to put what I've got left (the grains for Steve Flack's Amarillo recipe) in a spare FV & that will probably be it for the summer

BTW, does anyone know the potential extract figure for amber malt so I can do the efficiency calc. ?

Cheers Daab, I make it about 70% then (i've assumed the torrified wheat has the same yield as flaked barley)
