I'm gonna do a variation of orfy's Hobgoblin clone any suggestions are very welcome. In my quest for clearer beer i've opted to try 5.2 stabiliser.


5.56kg Marris Otter
0.3kg Crystal (Med)
0.23kg Carapils Malt
0.17kg Chocolate Malt
90 min - Hold mash at 69.0 C for 90 min
15.00 gm Styrian Goldings [5.00%] (60 min) (First Wort Hop)
15.00 gm Fuggles [4.50%] (60 min) (First Wort Hop)
--Boil for 60 min
15.00 gm Styrian Goldings [5.00%] (30 min)
15.00 gm Fuggles [4.50%] (30 min)
1.00 tsp whirfloc tab (20 min)
15.00 gm Fuggles [4.50%] (60 min)
15.00 gm Styrian Goldings [4.50%] (60 min )

-- Cool wort to fermentation temperature
-- Add water (as needed) to achieve volume of 23.00 L
-- Siphon wort to primary fermenter and aerate wort.
-- Add Ingredients to Fermenter

I will be interested to hear what you think of 5.2 stabiliser as I am going to get some myself for my next brew.
Fermenter(s): Lambic, Wheat beer, Amrillo/Cascade Beer

The final hop addition is an aroma hop steep i.e. throw them in for 10-15minutes power off at the end of the boil.

mmmm all i need to do now is pick a recipe, i do love Hobgoblin so maybe i'll just do 2 variations and see which i like best :D

AT, if you're gonna do two types, why not try Eskimos Hobgoblin recipe, done it three times now and it's great,

Brew length 19 litre based on 85% efficiency
3900 gm Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM)
136 gm Caramel/Crystal Malt - 80L (80.0 SRM)
91 gm Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM)
65 gm Black (Patent) Malt (500.0 SRM)
60 gm Chocolate Malt (450.0 SRM)
23 gm Progress [7.00%] (90 min) Hops 21.1 IBU
21 gm Styrian Goldings [5.00%] (15 min) Hops 6.1 IBU
15 gm Styrian Goldings [5.00%] (2 min) Hops 0.8 IBU
5 gm Irish Moss (Boil 15.0 min) Misc
SafAle English Ale (DCL Yeast #S-04)

Mash 90 mins in 10.5 litres at 66C

I have to call off this til at least Monday as HnG phoned me to say i wouldn't have it for the weekend cause Patsy had a day off yesterday. Also anybody looking for PH 5.2 they have none. I have some maris otter a little choc malt, a little belgian aromatic and various hops maybe i'll just bung them in so Saturday is not wasted

Just ordered some from morebeer as I had to order some other bits as well.
