I Wanna Be Your Dog. (Heres'Hoppy)

Thought I’d post my latest brew. I’m a big fan of Brewdog’s range hence the name. Its taken from the single by Iggy Pop and the Stooges on their debut album (still sounds fresh to this day!)
Probably a little bit OTT for most but to be honest, I really need to make some room in the freezer and have been promising myself to do this for a while now., so 450g into the boiler and 350g for dry-hopping. Total of 3/4 of a kg in 21 ltrs. Yes crazy ! :bonk

I know efficiency from wort loss to the “generous” hop bill was going to be going to be horrendous but calculated for this.
There’s no 60 min boil hops ! All hops are 5 minutes from the end of the boil and flame out then steeped for 45 minutes thereafter before cooling.

With those losses I'd be tempted to give the hops a blinking good squeeze.

It does sound nice though... one of those beers that still has you lip smacking 5 minutes after a sip.

Fantastic. I've gone as far as 300g for 23L and felt guilty... not any more !
I'm sure that will be a beer to remember.

You should hear the live version on the bootleg album, Nightclubbing - it's sublime.

That looks outstanding. What do you think you lost to the hops in the kettle?

450g of hops in the boil phase @ 15ml wort absorbed per 1g of hops gives a mighty loss of 6.75 litres

25 ltrs measured in the copper after the boil and 21 in the fermenter, after "gentle" squeezing that is

Probably another litre and a half loss after the dry hops, depending on how compact they settle at the bottom of the fermenter ?

Its incredibly murky and oily at the minute with hop particles, so will update in a few days. Taste is incredibly fruity pungent and resinous :D

Well, here’s the first “proper tasting” and I’m blown away by just how good this is (to my taste anyway) SWMBO could smell the hop aroma when I was pouring it out from three feet away! !!!
Tasting notes: Malty, with a hint of bitter chocolate and intoxicatingly hoppy but beautifully balanced with grapefruit, flowers, pine needles and tropical fruits all punching through the carafa, crystal and caragold and held nicely together by the oats.
I’m loving the red colour as well which to be honest I really wasn’t expecting however the camera doesn’t do it justice. Nice tight head retention and lovely body.

Staying with hoppy for tonight, I’d thought I’d compare it with this as the benchmark. It’s my SMASH Centennial which I honestly thought was seriously hoppy but right now it just doest even come close !!!! It feels sort of “distant” Think my taste buds are zapped from the hops of the previous pint and I’m still burping up Ahtanum and Simcoe!
