Had a semi successful afternoon at the bedford brewshop yesterday and have bought all bits except for an immersion chiller which they didnt have in stock.

I took it upon myself to build my own IC after borrowing my mates pipe bender. I'm now thinking that 2 meters of it was not enough

here's all the gear setup up and tested

i checked how much wasted water gets left in the bottom of both the mash tun and the hlt/boiler. the mash tun leaves exactly 1 litre behind, the hlt/boiler 2.3 litres. so i guess as i'm using my hlt as a boiler, i need to add a total of 5.6 litres to the intial amount of water i need... so 23 litres plus 5.6 plus 20% for evapouration totals 34.32 litres, plus watever gets absorbed by the grain and hops (how do i work that out?) please correct me if i'm wrong.
my mash tun came with a rather strange manifold inside:

i notice it's too close to the edges and so may cause channeling but i'll see how it goes.
here's all the ingredients i bought

there's some other hops there for my next brew which will be Styrian Stunner.
well i'd better go clean up the kitchen and await your answers about how much water i need before i start.
