BIAB no.8 Hopping Mad bitter
Posted: Sat Mar 28, 2015 9:30 pm
This started out as an attempt on a Hopping Hare clone, but I tinkered with it a little and saw somewhere that they use chocolate malt for colour so it is probably not going to be anything like it, hopefully still good though.
Recipe
3kg pale malt 85.7%
.3kg Pale wheat malt 8.7%
.1kg Caramunich 2.9%
.1kg Crytal malt 60 2.9%
25g First gold 8.8% AA at 60 minutes
25g Cascade 8.4% AA at 10 minutes
15g EKG 4.7% AA at 10 minutes
15g Cascade steep hops
15g EKG steep hops
Whirlfloc at 15 minutes
Yeast nutrient at 15 minutes
Rehydrated Nottingham yeast
Batch size 20 litres
1041 og
1009 fg
ABV 4.09%
34 Ibus
11.3ebc
Grain shot

Advanced two vessel set up

Just over temperature at mashing in

A lack of photos today as I had a mate over to observe, I also had a bit of temperature loss on the mash due to using less water than usual intending to use it to mash out at the end, it dropped to 62' by the end of 70 minutes so I added a further 5 litres at 75' but it still only brought it up to 67', not quite the mash out I was intending, I sparged with about 10 litres of water at 80' then added all together in the boiler and took a pre boil reading of 1035', I boiled 27 litres and lost 4 to the boil and another couple to the hops/trub etc
Post boil stuff

Post boil sample

Yeast pitched at 19'

I ended up with 20 litres at 1042' into the FV so pretty much spot on for a change.
I am intending to dry hop this with Cascade and EKG.
