surprise brewday!

Post by Gurgeh » Mon Sep 17, 2007 9:32 am

My 2 yr old daughter is filling her nappy with korma today, so i've got the day off work with her.

got some work to do, might impress the wife with some voluntary hoovering, but no reason why I can't get a brew on as well!

Bit of a risk to it though... Just taken some crouch vale yeast out of the freezer and feel confident I can get it going by say, 4pm. I have some Nottingham on standby just in case but i'd rather not!

so. background....

I have a corny full of a pale & aromatic cascade ale. I love it actually, but could do with a rest from it. the other corny has a similar beer which is 50-50 cascade & brewers gold.

options:

1) Continue my development of pale aromatic ales, using some northdown to bitter and some EKG for flavour/aroma. should be quite floral if the CV yeast does its thing!

2) try another FLP using crouch vale yeast, to compare the difference with a recently brewed FLP done with nottingham

3) something else. I've got pale, crystal, choc, wheat choc, flaked maize, black, cascade, brewers gold, northdown, EKG, challenger, target, goldings. any ideas for something 1.045, 35 IBU-ish

How about a mild? Not the specs you asked for but would be a change.

Hi Pete, sorry to hear about the Dehli Belly. I hope it wasn't anything to do with yesterday.

Whatever you decide, have a good brewday.

I'll p.m. you later

Cheers.

cheers John, no nothing from yesterday, I think that she was going down with it before she got there - explains her mood! she's perfectly happy, just squitty.

you inspired me to get greater variety of beers, so I think i'll not do option 1.

I don't quite fancy a mild i'm afraid Steve, bit too much of a hophead!

might just do DaaBs version of FLP having tasted JB's yesterday and been a tad humbled by the experience

At the risk of sounding like a muppet....what's FLP?

I think it'll be FLP John. might do it one evening this week instead as the yeast is still inactive.

I'm afraid I coveted your RG550 a bit yesterday and whilst i can't afford one i have posted about an motor i just bought...

I had a look here and whilst they don't have the same pump as you they do have cheaper ones.

Item 5 looks a good deal especially as it's the all important stainless steel,
and a lot cheaper than mine.
