I intended to make some biodiesel today, but I forgot to get the waste veg oil yesterday.
So I decided to make use of the time and do a batch of AG instead, going for a quaffable summer ale, aiming for a 10 litre batch.
800g Maris Otter (68.08%)
300g Unmalted Wheat (25.53%)
50g Flaked Barley (4.25%)
25g Roast Barley (2.14%)
Mash 1 hour @ 66C
Boil 1 hour
5g Bullion @ 60 mins
10g First Gold @ 15 mins
Rebellion brewery yeast
SG 1038
I may dry hop with some First gold too.
May as well have a brewday then
Re: May as well have a brewday then
Bullion eh? Don't see much of that any more. What's the Rebellion yeast like chug?
Re: May as well have a brewday then
It seems good thus far, gets going well and forms a nice brainy krausen which drops throughout fermentation and leaves a nice clear beer with a compact sediment, I haven't noticed any particular yeasty flavours just a nice clean finish.
On a side note I used some of the spent grain and yeast to get some bread on the go, left it proving overnight and knocked it back this morning and split it into two tins to prove again for baking later.

Re: May as well have a brewday then
Good man. Let us know how the ale and the bread turn out. I've been reading up on bread this week after my first successful attempts earlier in the week.
Re: May as well have a brewday then
Checked this on Monday evening after work and the krausen had dropped and it was clearing and tastes good and seems almost done so I chucked in a little parcel of First Gold for a few days dry hop before bottling maybe at the weekend.
Oh yeah and bread took a little longer to rise and so i settled for denser smaller loaves but it was bloody lovely, I had the last few slices for my sandwiches today.

Checked the SG yesterday and its down to 1010 and tasting good so I'll probably bottle over the w/end sometime.
Re: May as well have a brewday then
I bottled this on 18th April and had a taster last w/end which was nice but it still needed time, I had another today and much improved although still not completely clear but the first gold hoppiness is lovely and I could maybe have put in more ( I've noticed my liking for hoppy beers is increasing, I used to shudder at the amounts some guys used but I seem to be craving more!)
